Jesus Christ was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Romans 4:25
We were dead in our transgressions and sins as we followed the ways of this world and the ruler of the kingdom of the air. Gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature. We like sheep with no shepherd have errored and all gone our ways, being slaves of the world that is already judged, and by nature objects of wrath. The stroke of death was due to us until Christ gave himself up as an atonement for our sins.
Titus 2:14 Jesus Christ gave Himself to be crucified on our behalf to redeem us and purchase our freedom from all wickedness…
He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for the sake of the world’s wickedness. He took and suffered our punishment on the cross. Absolving all our sins before God. His blood that was shed on Calvary brought us salvation and freedom from all wickedness.
Christ having suffered for our sake, did not see decay. He was raised on the third day for us to obtain eternal life by believing in Him as our Saviour.
Acts 2:24 But God raised Him up, releasing Him and bringing an end to the agony of death since it was impossible for Him to be held in death’s power.
Jesus Christ was resurrected and raised back to glorious life for our sake:-
-To turn us from our wicked ways.
It was for you first of all that God raised His Servant and Son Jesus and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways. Acts 3:26
Since we have been raised with Christ Jesus, we have to put to death whatever belongs to our earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. We have to get rid of such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language from our lips. For we have been reborn into the image of our Creator. Our whole being should be yielded to the will of God. Hence we should operate with the virtues of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and love.
-For us to obtain help.
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come, but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
If Christ was not resurrected then we would have no helper. We would be like orphans in the world with no one to help us. But he was raised so that as long as we are in the world we would obtain the help of the Holy Spirit. He is our guide, a counselor, helper, comforter. A friend whom we can always rely on.
-To bring us liberty.
Where sin dwelt, he cleansed and purified us by his blood. We were crucified with him in our iniquities and raised together with him to his righteousness. He canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. Hence purchasing our freedom.
We have to remain rooted in Christ Jesus so that we don’t fall captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy which depends on human tradition and basic principles of this world rather than Christ.
Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
-To renew and transform us.
Romans 6:13 Do not go on offering members of your body to sin as instruments of wickedness. But offer yourselves to God as those alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
Christ Jesus has sanctified us and set us apart for his righteousness. Having been grafted into Christ by faith, we are made into new creatures. The previous moral behavior and spiritual condition have passed away. We have obtained a spiritual awakening. We ought to walk habitually in the transformed life. Colossians 3:1 Therefore if you have been raised with Christ keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
-To live in his light.
We all know that light and darkness cannot exist together. By paying our debts on the cross, Christ translated us from the dominion of darkness to the Kingdom of his Light.
Colossians 1:13 For he rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves. In whom we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins. We must no longer live in the futility of our previous thinking; darkened in our understanding and separated from the life of God. We should not let unwholesome talk come out of our mouths, but only that which helps build up others. Living as imitators of God.
-To obtain healing.
Through Christ Jesus, the devil lost his grip over us. No sickness, any form of oppression or depression can hold us in bondage. It was through this name that conquered death and grave that the disciples and apostles performed great miracles. For instance, In Act 3, Peter and John on their way to the temple at the time of prayer came across a crippled beggar. The man was crippled from birth and was brought to the temple gate daily to beg from those going into the temple. But when Peter saw him, he commissioned him to walk by the power of Jesus Christ and immediately the crippled man began to walk and jump praising God.
–To obtain the blessings.
He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. Acts 13:34 “And that He raised Him from the dead, never again to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David” ( those blessings and mercies that were promised to him)
Christ endured suffering so that we can obtain the blessings of Abraham. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written; “cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” He redeemed us so that the blessing promised to Abraham might come to us by faith through Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:13-14) Being heirs of Christ Jesus the blessings are guaranteed to us and the promise of the Holy Spirit.
–To live a purposeful life.
Christ was raised from the dead so that we would no longer live for ourselves. His blood cleansed our consciences from acts that lead to death so that we may serve the living God. Therefore, we must make our callings and election sure. For it is God who works in us to will and act according to his good purpose.
–To bring us to a place of rulership and dominion.
Christ Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. Colossians 1:15-16.
Jesus Christ disarmed all powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. He destroyed all rulers and principalities of darkness. He holds the keys of death and hades. He crowned man with glory and honor and made him ruler over the works of his hands. (Psalm 8)
Genesis 1:28. God blessed man and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground. Therefore in his name, we rule and reign on earth as God’s sons.
–To be his witnesses.
God raised Jesus to life, and of that fact, we are all witnesses.Acts 2:32
We like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood. It is our responsibility as a chosen people and a holy nation to preach the gospel declaring the praises of God.
He was raised for us to have a glorious future. John 3:14-15 Just as Moses lifted up the (bronze) serpent in the desert (on a pole), so must the Son be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.
