In the world today, we are faced with concerns which make us live in fear instead of faith. Looking around us is all manner of chaos and confusion. It looks as if things are falling apart. But we as believers have Christ Jesus our hope in glory. While everyone else is focusing on the destructions, we should stand by faith.
I would define faith as perceiving the things that God has in store for us and going after them. When you perceive that this is what God has ordained for you, you place your faith in him to make it come to pass. It is only through Christ Jesus who strengthens us, can we achieve all things.
Jacob heard from God that He would establish him and increase him. However at Laban’s place, he experienced many challenges whereby if he never held onto God’s word he would have lived as a servant forever. He had to fight the good fight of faith. Taking God at his word; yielding and observing his instructions for his word to be fulfilled.
The just shall live by faith. Habbakuk 2:4 Unbelief causes us to stagger on God’s promises. Our father of faith-Abraham- stood strong in faith to see God’s promises come to pass. He staggered not at the promises through unbelief but was strong in faith, giving glory to God.
By faith, queen Esther went into the king’s presence though her life was at stake, she stepped out to stand in the gap for the Jew people. By faith, Elisha amidst other prophets’ opinion, believed that he would receive a double portion anointing when he saw the chariots of fire take Elijah away and this came to pass.
In the face of challenges, hold on to faith. Do not succumb to fear it can easily make you loose focus. Challenges are tests but you have Christ in you to overcome them. Paul the apostle tell us that we should fight the good fight of faith. Though we will encounter things or mountains too high to climb we have to go through anyway, we have to overcome because Christ overcame all.
In the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem Nehemiah faced much opposition. He was threatened by Sanballat, Tobiah and Geshem his enemies who never saw God restoring Judah. But Nehemiah chose to stand on God’s word: the God that gave him favor with king Artaxerxes to facilitate the project. He believed God would accomplish his word. Many times when we face opposition, we tend to doubt God’s word and some even believe in the enemy’s lie and get out of God’s path. Our faith even in the midst of hard times should not waiver. We ought to position ourselves in God’s word. Nehemiah fought the good fight and succeeded in his mission.
Christ is for us therefore we should not fear. As believers we do not have the spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. We have been given power and authority over circumstances. When we set our minds in Christ Jesus we function in His peace which transcends all understanding.
In Matthew 8, As Jesus entered Capernaum; a centurion came to him because his servant was sick of the palsy and asked Jesus to say a word consequently the servant would be healed. Jesus marveled saying he had not seen such great faith. And Jesus said unto the centurion, “Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.” Matthew 8:13.
When we take God at His word, faith activates the power for it to be accomplished. For the unseen to become visible, and for us to walk in God’s reality of what He had intended for us. Matthew 7:20…for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Nothing can resist you if you have faith in God. Situations bow when we proclaim this faith. The God kind of faith sees possibilities where there were impossibilities. We declare things in his name and his word backs us up. It is by this same faith that makes us move from one level to another.
When Jesus came to Jericho, he encountered a blind man by the name Bartimaeus who kept shouting at him “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many rebuked him but he kept shouting. This drew Jesus’ attention to him. And he said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way. Mark 10:52.
At times listening to the wrong voices can deter us from receiving what Christ has for us. Bartimaeus shut down their opinions and raised his faith to obtain his miracle. So when we are faced with a situation God looks at our faith. He works with what we present to him. In faith, we chase after God’s vision for our lives. We need to daily pursue after him for guidance and counsel. It is only by relying solely on him can we achieve our purposes in life. When we hear from God, we have to go after him. If he says this is the way, do these, then we have no obligation searching for verification from people who know nothing about our lives. You have to trust God at his word and move with it by faith.
By faith, God can use us to do mighty works. This happens when we are submitted to him. Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. So what is that thing that is stopping you from achieving those dreams? Is it fear? You have to conquer it by applying the God kind of faith and you will witness God do wonders in your life. Step forward in faith for fear cannot function in the presence of faith.
By Christ Jesus, we have access by faith into his grace wherein we stand and rejoice in the hope of God. Romans 5:2
