God’s goodness.

The Lord God is abundant in goodness.  Because of his loving kindness, the Lord has bestowed great goodness towards us according to his mercies. He has generously demonstrated his goodness to those who are called by his name.

Psalms 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

God’s goodness is evident throughout the bible in the lives of his faithful servants. It is displayed in numerous ways in the life of Abraham, Isaac, Joshua, David, Solomon, Samuel, Esther, Elisha, John among others.  The Lord showed his goodness to the children of Israel when they cried for help and delivered them from the hand of the Egyptians which held them captive for four hundred and thirty years.

Many are the wonders that the Lord laid has up for us.  He has preceded the righteous with the blessings of goodness and has not withheld their petitions. He is their portion therefore they have a delightful inheritance.

Deuteronomy 28:3. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of the kine and the flocks of the sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shall thou be when thou comest in and goest out.

The Lord God has already released his goodness to his children, but it is upon them to experience that which has been established.

This goodness can be experienced in our everyday life. However, there are those who only encounter glimpses of it once in a while, for others their life predicaments hinder them and they do not realize that there is such thing as enjoying the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

How do we behold the goodness of the Lord?

We begin by making Jesus Christ Lord over our lives. By allowing him to be our Shepherd; to lead and guide us. When we let him rule over our lives, we will experience his mercies and kindness.

There is a certain kind of life that always draws the goodness of the Lord.

  • A life of light.

But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. Proverbs 4:18.

God’s commandment is a lamp and his laws light that instructs and guides us.

  • Acknowledge the Truth

For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth. Psalms 33:4

The word of God should be the light of our lives. We should observe them and do his will so that it may always go well with us and our children. Abraham lived by this; teaching his children God’s statutes. He taught Isaac who also taught his sons Jacob and Esau. This was passed on from generation to generation. Some people strive because they have simply refused to live in the light. Not knowing God’s word is refusing the truth. For no good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shall make thy way prosperous and thou shall have good success.

  • Seek after God.

The Lord satisfies those that long after him. He fills the hungry soul with his goodness. David was a man after God’s heart. No day passed by without him seeking after God, he would rise up early to magnify him. In his presence we are filled with joy and eternal pleasures.                                           If we are quick to inquire of the Lord in our endeavors like David did, we will witness his breakthroughs in all our undertakings.

  • Delight in the Lord.

As we delight ourselves in the Lord by doing his will, his goodness is portrayed in our day to day life. The work of our hands is blessed, our families and nation.                    When one delights in the Lord, he lives in peace. When a man’s ways please the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7

  • Fear the Lord.

Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy. Psalms 33:18. Walking in the fear of the Lord allows one to enjoy the goodness of the Lord in his or her life. The Lord watches over them that revere him.

  • Have a Clean heart.

A clean heart is one that does not harbor iniquity.  A heart that easily forgives when wronged.

  • Believe in the Lord.

Do not doubt God’s word but wait upon the Lord and you shall see his goodness. Abraham’s life was full of the goodness of the Lord because even in trying times he stood still and waited on the Lord until his word came to pass.

  • Show compassion

Do not take for granted the small gestures of showing kindness or being generous even to strangers. Jesus showed us to love others as ourselves. His love for us was so great that he reached out to save the world from sin. Whenever people approached him from different backgrounds with different needs, he ministered to them. When we show compassion the Lord blesses us and preserves our lives.

The goodness of the Lord is upon the earth. By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. Psalms 33:6

How great is the goodness of the Lord; the things he has planned for us. It is very much possible to live life while experiencing the goodness of the Lord. We have to seek him and hearken diligently to his voice.

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusts in him.

May we rightly position ourselves to experience the goodness of the Lord.
