The story of Joseph is phenomenal. One day all is going well for him at his father’s house and then the next he finds himself in a strange land alone with no family members or even his father to guide him.
Joseph was his father’s favorite child for he was born at his old age. He was the disciplined one among Jacob’s other sons. His father loved him and made him a unique coat but his brothers resented him. Joseph had visitations from the Lord as the Lord revealed to him his future in dreams. He did not hold back this dreams but shared them with his family and his brothers hated him for that.
One day his father sent him to check on his brothers in the field. But when they saw him they plotted against him and want to execute him. They could not gasp the thought of Joseph being their leader. So when he came out looking for them they saw a chance to get rid of him. They planned of killing him but when they saw an Ishmaelite convoy passing by with their camels headed to Egypt they sold him to them.
In Egypt Joseph was sold as a slave to Potiphar. Though he was in a foreign country, he knew who he was and he continued to honor and worship God. He did not allow himself to be corrupted by the ways of the people in the foreign land. He never bowed to their gods or even worship them. Because of this God caused him to prosper in all that he did and Potiphar promoted him. He did not allow his promotion to make him conduct himself as he pleased but continued honoring God in this country. Even when Potiphar’s wife tempted him he did not fall into the trap but had the fear of God in him.
Potiphar put Joseph in prison though he was falsely accused by his wife. This did not deter Joseph from walking in the fear of God even though he passed through challenging times. This made him find favor with the prison warden who put him in charge of everything. When God saw that his heart was not turned against Him, He orchestrated things and had him interpret Pharaoh’s dream which led to his greatest breakthrough. Pharaoh made him the Governor of the land of Egypt. He put him in charge of everything in Egypt next in command to him.
When God takes us to a foreign place do we still honor Him or do we conform to the ways of that place? When God allows your business to expand and have branches in foreign nations do you still recognize Him? When He opens that door we have been knocking for career growth and we find ourselves in a strange land do we still remember our ways in the Lord?
Many times God performs that miracle that we have been waiting for but we conform too easily. We start worshiping other idols as other things take the place of God in our lives and we forgot to honor God who is everywhere and sees everything. Joseph found himself in a strange land surrounded by people who did not know God but he knew that the Creator of the Universe is omnipresent and therefore did not allow himself to be corrupted but kept honoring Him. He did not allow his situation to compel him to forget what his father taught him about God.
I would like to encourage you today that no matter where you find yourself that God is omnipresent, and all knowing give Him the glory that is due to His name. He sees and He is the one who promotes us. Let His light shine through us so that the world will see and come to Him.
