Safe Place.

At such a time in the world whereby everyone is affected by the epidemic in one way or the other. We run to look for safety. But do we know a place that we can hide securely from the things around us? How safe are we?

Psalms 91: 1 Says, He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Sure there is a place of total safety that we can put our confidence on. Not on the things of the world that will soon pass away but a place that is eminent forever.

When Isaac sent Jacob to Paddan-Aram he left and came to a place called Bethel where spent the night. During the night God revealed himself to him through a dream. He promised to keep watch over him wherever he went and bring him back to the Promised Land. In this journey, Jacob faced many challenges even his brother Esau threatened his life but God granted him peace and safety and brought him back from Paddam-Aram to the city of Shechem in the land of Canaan. Jacob dwelt safely in the Promised Land and from him came the twelve tribes of Israel.

When we go to sleep are we guaranteed safety, life, or even seeing another day? The psalmist said, “In peace, I will both lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord make me dwell in safety and confident trust. Psalm 4:8. He knew for sure that only God would watch over him and guarantee his safety. Deuteronomy 33:12 May the beloved of the Lord dwell in safety by him, and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

David faced many persecutions. He had gone through countless battles from his enemies. The Philistines, Saul etc. he escaped from them all and lay in caves where lions were. Psalm 57:1. No matter how experienced his army was, they didn’t guarantee his safety he always looked to God to watch over him and his family. No matter the battles he faced, he never lost hope. He always set the Lord before him. His confidence came from knowing that the Lord was at his right hand. No enemy in the name of Goliath or any giant could shake him.

On a certain occasion when David fled from Saul and hiding in the city of Ziklag, he found the Amalekites had raided the Negev, overthrown Ziglag setting it on fire. They had taken captive the women who had been left behind and their children. When David and his people saw this they wept bitterly for hours until they were exhausted. David’s two wives Ahinoam and Abigail had been captured. The people were embittered and planned to stone David but when David knew their plan he run to God to seek refuge from his distress. God answered him and gave him victory over the Amalekites. He recovered all that was captured including his wives and the flocks.

From this, we learn to put God first in everything in our lives. Allow him to guide you. Let Christ be the solid foundation upon which you stand. Do not succumb to fear of the enemy, be it at work, ministry, business, etc. David run to God. He knew his soul would find refuge in God. This is the only place of shelter and safety. We can only seek refuge in his wings until destruction passes away.

Paul the Apostle suffered shipwreck thrice. In Acts 27, Paul and other prisoners almost lost their lives in a shipwreck on their way to Italy. It was a very difficult sail and much was lost in the sea while some floated on planks. God rescued them and preserved their lives arriving safely on the island of Malta.

In the days of Noah, only a few people who placed their faith in God were brought safely through the floods. Only eight people who refused to be corrupted by the world were rescued. Those who stand firm in the times of trials, persevering and keeping God’s commands are kept safe from trials and testings on the earth. Those who have chosen to abide in God; Living by his ordinances, listening to his counsel every day of their lives, worshiping him in truth and spirit. Experience his protection, care, and provision. He sends them help from his sanctuary and fills their hearts with exceeding joy.

God never abandons. David knew this very well. He says you will not abandon me to the dead or allow me to see decay. This king underwent through a great turmoil that all he could see was death surrounding him. He even lived with his enemies the Philistines but the Lord never abandoned him. He kept him safe. Joseph experienced deliverance from his enemies including his brothers who sold him to slavery in Egypt wishing him death but God never abandoned him instead he promoted him to be their deliverer.

God sends help. When we abide in God, he sends his angels to protect us against any danger/attack from the enemy. When we call on him from heaven he answers and sends us help. He commands his angels to lift us in their arms so that we will not get hurt. When the children of Israel left Egypt God sent his angels to watch over them. God will save us from the lion and the cobra if we only set our eyes on him.

In God’s presence is joy everlasting and pleasures forevermore. Seeking God allows us to surrender wholly to him and in turn, he fills our hearts with much joy and gladness. He grants us peace. In David’s battles he never returned empty-handed, God allowed him to come back with great spoils.

Trust God. Our trust should be on God and not on what people say out of their acquirement’s/training. If we love him surrendering our all to him, he will set us securely on high. God says, if we call on him he will answer us. He will be with us in trouble, he will rescue us. He will show us his salvation and will satisfy us with long life. I believe this what all of us wish to see in this kind of predicament. Proverbs 29:25. The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the Lord shall be safe.

Christ is the good shepherd who won’t run away when he sees danger approaching his flock. He will never abandon us or leave us lonely. He will lay down his life for his sheep. John 10. This is our hope in him. The anchor of our soul. We who have fled to him for refuge will be strongly encouraged and strengthened to hold to him. Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

God is faithful. To his sons, God proves himself faithful. He is our shield. He encompasses around us like a wall within a building holding the structure in place. Holding us by his righteous hand. He saves us from the Fowler’s trap, from deadly pestilence, from the plagues. He keeps us safe in the shadow of his wings where no enemy can withstand his power. With him round about us, no harm can come near us because we chose to make him our dwelling place. 2 Timothy 4:18 The Lord will deliver me from every evil assault, and He will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom.
