Jesus taught us the core of prayer. Prayer is an obligation to every believer. It helps us develops a relationship with our Father. In the Lord’s Prayer, he taught us how to ask for our daily provision, ‘Give us this day our daily bread.’ This shows that God is able to sustain us. Daily we are to fellowship with him. He is willing to guide us. That is why when we neglect our daily fellowship we suffer, we endure life instead of enjoying it.
God our creator is all-knowing. He knew us even before we were formed in our mother’s womb. All the days ordained for us were written in his book before we even came to be. He knows the number of hairs on our heads. We are the apple of his eye. This means he cares for us, that is why we need to live each day relying on him. Knowing him as our sole sustainer. If we can trust God with our today, he will take care of our tomorrow.
The bible shows us various ways in which God provided for his people. When the children of Israel left Egypt for Canaan, they camped in the desert. While in the desert; God provided for them manna in the morning and quail in the evening. None of them was feeble because he took good care of them for they were his own.
The Bible cautions us about being anxious in life. Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
The Israelites knew they could rely on God, for with his mighty arm he delivered them. Whenever they had a need they called out to him and he answered them. But whenever doubt crossed their minds, murmuring and complaining are what they did. Which is easier? Murmuring about life or living each day making your requests and petitions known to God? I would rather trust God and live a peaceful life. It becomes much easier to live life knowing God is with you. Complaining pushes God far away from us. Let us long for him daily.
The feeding of the five thousand
The crowds followed Jesus from the towns as he sailed by boat and he had concern for them and healed their sick. When evening came, Jesus had compassion on them and performed a miracle with only five loaves of bread and two fish. Taking the five loaves and two fish, he gave thanks and broke the loaves, and presented them to the disciples to feed the people. They all ate and were satisfied and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were leftover. Jesus multiplied the fish and loaves to feed five thousand men besides women and children. As the crowds gathered to meet Jesus, Jesus not only healed and ministered to them but also noticed they were hungry and fed them. This is what happens when we daily fellowship with him he meets our daily needs.
After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples by the sea of Tiberias. Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathaniel, the sons of Zebedee, and two others were out fishing but caught nothing that night. Early Morning Jesus stood by the shore and asked them if they had caught any fish but they said no, Jesus told them to throw their net on the right side of the boat and they caught a large number of fish that they were unable to haul the net. Jesus was still concerned with the welfare of his disciples even after the resurrection. He is also concerned with our welfare too.
God can keep you and supply all your needs. (Phil 4:19). He provided for the Israelites for forty years while in the desert. He performed miracles for his people. He can also sustain us through all seasons. All he requires of us is to seek him. He longs to daily walk with us as he did with the disciples. He constantly fellowshipped with them and daily ministered to them.
Miraculous supply
There was a famine in Israel for three and a half years. But God’s servants were well taken care of. For instance, God ordered ravens to feed Prophet Elijah at Kerith Ravine east of Jordan. They brought him bread and meat in the morning as well as in the evening. After this, God commanded a widow at Zarephath to supply him with food. During this period none of God’s servants lacked, God ministered and attended to them.
Our Father loves us and gives good gifts to those who ask of him. Matthew 7:7 says, Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. It is therefore upon us as God’s children to cultivate a relationship with him each day. A son can only know the father they fellowship with daily. The bible says no good father will give his son a rock when he asks for bread. Our Father treasures us and desires that our joy be complete with him.
God’s endless bounty does not run dry. When the brook at Kerith ran dry for lack of rain, God didn’t abandon his prophet. He provided through another channel. The bible says that at the widow’s house the jar of flour was never used up neither did her jug of oil run dry during the drought season.
God has many means of meeting our daily needs. All we need to do is to trust in him entirely. He makes a way where there seems to be no way. If we give him a chance to minister to us every single day, our daily needs will be met too. The future is secure in his hands. For the promises of God are yes in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:33. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you. We also need to have the heart of gratitude that Jesus had and be thankful for the daily provisions.
John 1:16. From the fullness of grace, we have received one blessing after another.
